Multi-Core processor, courtesy of Intel

More cores = better performance but many programs written for a single-core chips must be revised or updated to exploit the potential of multicore chips.

Adding more processor cores has become one of the ways to enhance the performance of servers and personal computers, but the benefits decrease if the industry is not able to overcome some challenges, both in hardware and in software, as has been apparent in the last Multicore Expo edition in California.

Intel has introduced new chips that will join the current Atom range and are oriented to mobile internet devices and PC. Two new chips that cover the demand for more power with 2 GHz processor and another one with a maximum frequency of 1.2 GHz.
